Have you ever been driving to work, or the store, and suddenly your car starts groaning or hideously screeching? If the answer’s yes, you’re not alone. Millions of people every day either postpone car repairs or ignore them indefinitely no matter how serious. While it’s understandable to want to wait on some of these issues, others require immediate attention. The longer you wait, the more likely you will have severe damage occur. If the damages are left unchecked, you could end up paying more in repairs or even permanently damage your vehicle.

Ignorance Isn’t Bliss

You may feel compelled to turn up the radio or simply ignore that blood-curdling squeal emanating from your car; this will undoubtedly become a problem because that squealing is likely your breaks, and if you continue to pretend like the sound is coming from the car next to you, it’ll only get worse. You might end up spending more money on a new set, so don’t wait until the brake pads grind into nothing. The safety of your vehicle is dangerously compromised as the brake rotors wear down over time.

Ticking, Clicking, and Clunking in Your Clunker

Of these three distinct and equally terrifying noises, ticking is probably the most serious when you hear it. Especially if you hear ticking while stopped, it typically means you’re low on oil and need an oil change right away. Without adequate oil, your engine will eventually get damaged, or completely destroyed. The clicking sound is usually something called a CV joint. This joint lubes the front axels and is the likely perpetrator of the click. It’s much better to fix this early than wait, because if your axel needs to be replaced it’ll be much more expensive. Clunking could be a variety of issues, but the most probable culprits are the shock absorbers. Without adequate shock absorption, the handling of the vehicle will get considerably worse. Bad shocks can also affect your brakes, which can cause safety concerns for your vehicle.

It may feel like the most natural thing in the world to ignore an unusual sound in your car. We understand that vehicle repairs are expensive, time consuming, and exasperating. The reality, however, is that the longer you wait the worse your car problems may become. We suggest taking your car to the mechanic so you can have peace of mind while you’re on the road.
